Comprehensive Evaluation

Comprehensive evaluation in psychiatry involves a thorough assessment of a patient’s mental health, including their symptoms, medical history, social context, and psychological functioning. The purpose of the evaluation is to develop a diagnosis, treatment plan, and ongoing management plan for the patient.

Clinical interview: The clinician conducts a comprehensive interview with the patient to gather information about their symptoms, medical history, and social context. The clinician may also interview family members or other caregivers to obtain additional information.

Mental status examination: The clinician evaluates the patient’s cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning. This may include an assessment of their mood, thought processes, memory, and attention.

After completing the comprehensive evaluation, the clinician develops a diagnosis and treatment plan for the patient, which may include psychotherapy, medication, or other interventions.
